Busy Mom’s Survival Guide Podcast Episode 004.
We’re told over and over again to drink enough water. And I admit, that I usually do, but I didn’t really understand why it was so important. But now I do! There is a reason that you can live for several months without food, but only a couple of days without water. Water is essential to your body functioning properly.
And if you’re not drinking enough water, you’re not going to feel as well as you could. During this podcast episode I discuss why it is important to drink water, how much you should drink, and how to know if you’re getting enough.
Emery also joins me for a little while to discuss his feelings about drinking water instead of sodas.
I would love to know what you thought of this episode and whether or not you think you’re getting enough water throughout your day. You can comment on the blog post below or leave a message on The Busy Mom’s Survival Guide feedback line at 240-230-SOAP.
Thanks for listening! Tune in next week when I talk about exercise!

Another great podcast, PJ!
Thanks for the info. behind ‘why’ we need to drink water each day….it helps us want to drink it more by knowing all that.
About 5 years ago we purchased a water filter / dispenser system that holds a little more than a gallon of water. We fill it at least twice a day, and change the filters about every 2 months. I’m sure there are probably better filter systems out there, but this one has served us well and is very reasonably within budget when it comes to replacement filters.
Drinking water was a bit hard for me to get used to, but now I have given up soda and prefer the water. I notice my skin seems healthier now, as well. (Using GMS soap helps that, too! 🙂 )
Thanks for helping us transform our lives with your helpful info each week, PJ! You have a great teaching ability! Please tell Emery we enjoyed his segment on the podcast. 🙂
Thanks, Jonie
I think your filter is probably just fine – the point is you’re using it and that’s what is important!
Thanks for the compliments, they mean a lot to me. Emery says, “Thanks, it was terrifying!”
I laughed at him and told him that if Indigo could do it, so could he. LOL
PJ
In my family, I am always the one who is pushing the water. I always try to give the health benefits, but often get rolled eyes as they drink a glass of water to shut me up.
I am going to make them listen to this podcast. Maybe then I won’t get as many eye rolls 🙂
Melissa – you’ve got it right. It’s important for somebody to be there pushing them, but ultimately the goal is for them to have the internal push to do it for themselves.
I hope it helps with the eye rolls, too!
PJ
I have two reusable water bottle and fill them in the morning. I work on drinking them by lunch and then refill. I need to see how much water I need to drink and pace myself.
Sadie – it sounds like you’re doing a great job. Good for you!
PJ
Hi PJ, This is my first time listening, Thanks for the great reminders and all the new encouraging info. My boys loved to see and hear Emery. Have a great day.
Thanks, Julie! I told Emery and he’s all embarrassed now. LOL I hope to see you again soon! We miss you!
PJ
Thanks for all the information on the importance of drinking water. I didn’t know about half of the things you mentioned. Great to have that information. Off to drink my water!!!!
Thanks, Sue!
I honestly didn’t know most of it either before I started researching it. I’m glad it helped!
PJ
Great podcast. I use to hate water. Always going for something else mostly soda. Now I drink more water than anything else and can’t imagine going back to sodas. I carry a water bottle with me everywhere and can really tell when I need my body needs it. While I’ll admit switching wasn’t easy I’m far healthier and am amazed how much better I feel.
Yeah, Effie!!
That’s so awesome to hear! I think for so many people it’s committing to making the switch that is so much harder than the actual switch itself. Because once the change is made, you just feel so much better and it makes it easy to stick to it!
PJ
Wow! Thank you! This Is a great podcast Mrs. Jonas! I hope you continue doing them! GOD has blessed you with the ability to stand out in a crowd and speak up! Thank you again! Emily Rife!
Emily – you’re such a sweetie. Thank you so much. Indigo just got her letter in the mail and they LOVED their book marks. The sea turtle one was the biggest hit, although we did have a lesson on sea otters afterwards b/c they didn’t know what those were.
We’re really hoping that we’re going to make it to Topsail again this year and be able to meet you and your family!
Mrs. Jonas
I should drink more water than I do. I am planning on starting doing that here now. I love ice cold water.
I always knew that water was good for you but never did any research as to how or why. Thanks for all the info. I will be ordering the lilac soap today and will be drinking lemon water today as well.
Since living overseas I’m not as big a fan of ice water as I used to be. Guess I’m not American anymore in that regard. But I do love to put lemon in it! Plus I think a slice of lemon looks pretty floating in my water bottle.
I’ve been trying really hard to drink enough water and this podcast came at just the right time to give me the extra encouragement I needed. Thanks!!
I started listening thinking I knew lots about water, but WOW I learned so much! Thanks, I will be passing the info along to my 2 homeschool kids in school today 🙂
PJ, why do you say that distilled water is not the best? I have osteo arthritis and read that the heavy minerals make it worse. We have a distiller that we have used for years. Do you have any advice or added information?
I really enoy your podcasts. Thanks
This is very informative. I learned so much! Thanks for the water encouragement.
Thank you for this great podcast! This is my first one and I’m hooked. I thought I knew about water, but wow! I will be better for sure. Thanks PJ!! Keep it up, I love your pod casts!
I drink mostly water throughout the day as do my nieces. But I know I should be drinking even more. I’ve given up sodas and coffee in January and have been doing really well. Thanks for the reminders on how important it is.
We use to use a PUR faucet mount system…we switched to a Berkey, we can tell water that has gone through the Berkey does have a better taste. It doesn’t add anything to the water it removes the stuff in the water that makes it taste bad. We have found since we have a Berkey, all of us drink more water. You can add a filter to remove fluoride. Here is my affiliate link to where we bought our Berkey (plus freebie) & the elements. http://www.morethanalive.com/?a_aid=837c265b
Thank you for this great podcast! I know I have to drink more water. It is hard for me because I don’t drink much at all. Thanks for the encouragement! Emery did a great job!
Thank you for the reminder! I really need to up my intake. Please continue with the great information!
This is an area I am working on. I haven’t been drinking as much water over the past few months and can definitely tell through lack of weight loss despite working out and eating well. I am trying to get back on board though. I didn’t realize how water effected blood pressure though. Thanks for that info. I will let my husband know since he has BP issues. I am back to counting cups again for me though!
Guess I found that right place. Either way. Thanks for your podcast I now can listen at work. I love hearing your kids and including them in the discussions.
We are always drinking water in our house and I love to slice cucumbers to it. It’s a really light flavor but refreshing.
