What a month October has been!

Because we believe in lifelong learning, Jim and I attended the SCORRE™ Intensive Speaker Training Conference outside Nashville, Tennessee. We got great tips about preparation and presentation that will help us be more clear in our communication for Farm Tours, and the educational talks that I do. The children and staff always do a great job keeping things on the farm going, so we were thrilled to get a little time to ourselves!

There was quite a lot to keep going, too.

The alpine dairy goats have started breeding season which means lots of specialized groupings and careful attention to gates, as the milkers are moved around twice each day for milking. It’s important to keep the right buck in with each group so we get the best genetic pairings for our kids this Spring. (Now that the pairs are established, you can put down a deposit, by the way, on your own baby goat to bring home!)



The garden has been mostly harvested with huge yields of late season peppers, and sweet potatoes galore!




We finally, if only temporarily, have no one in braces anymore as Greyden and Fletcher have now both been released. How about those smiles, huh?





As many of you know, we love our musical theatre and we were excited to go see Aladdin this month. The children also took part in a local Lip-sync Battle fundraising contest. They performed to “What Is This Feeling” from Wicked. Indigo played Galinda and Jade was her perfect foil as Elphaba.

The boys rounded out the chorus and they all did a fantastic job! They even won the “Star of the Show” award for their efforts!

The month finished up with one of our favorite weeks of the year, with hundreds of FFA members visiting the farm while they were in Indianapolis for the FFA National Convention. The groups vary in size from a few to fifty but they are always super respectful, inquisitive, and intelligent. We love meeting them all and look forward to even more next year!
