When we first got goats, we lived on three acres. There were a total of 3 pine trees on that entire property for the goats to eat because the property was an old hay field.  The goats had plenty of space, but the  property was not ideal for them because goats are browsers, not grazers.   What’s the difference?  Grazers (sheep, cows, and horses) prefer grass.  Browsers instead prefer trees, brambles, vines, and poison ivy.  

When we outgrew our first property and started searching for a new one, having woods was one of the criteria we used in the new property search.  And we found them! At our new location, we have 36 acres and the majority of it is wooded for the goats.  

But initially the goats seemed to be a little intimidated by all those trees, because they didn’t venture too far into the woods.  So we decided to take them for a walk in the woods and show them the bounty they now had available.

It was awesome!  It was a lovely day, and such a joy to see the goats so happy.   You can tell that Emery takes care of the goats because they follow him around and trust him completely.  I love seeing my children and my goats so happy!
