Happy Birthday Colter!

Yes, it’s true.  Colter is now 16!  And what a capable (and handsome) young man he has become! But he’ll never be too old for breakfast birthday cake. Or for hugging and goofing around with his siblings. Or for appreciating his Dad’s sense of humor. Happy Birthday, Colter!  You’re an incredible, awesome son!

Happy Birthday Jade!

How did my baby turn 7 already?  You always hear it said that the older you get, the faster time goes by.  It is so true!  Jade is growing up into such a wonderful person and we’re all so proud of her!! Happy Birthday, Jade! Because her birthday is the Fourth of July, she had quite […]

The 9/11 Memorial

Mom and Dad thought it was very important that we visit the 9/11 Memorial while we were in NYC. Before we left Indiana, we watched a few documentaries and had a lot of discussions about that day. Both Mom and Dad told us where they were when the attacks occured and how they found out […]

People We Met In NYC

While we were in New York, we had the opportunity to meet so many cool people.  It made an incredible trip even more special because we got to hear some stories from people who have been all over the world. On our first full day in NYC, we went to visit the 9/11 Memorial. On […]

Broadway

When I first heard that we were going to New York, my first thought was Broadway. My family and I absolutely love musicals, and I’d heard Mom and Dad talk about Broadway for years. We all agreed that a Broadway show was a necessary part of our trip. The real dilemma came when we had […]

Our NYC “Firsts”

This was the first visit to NYC for me and my siblings, and we did so many things for the first time! We had NYC pizza, NYC bagels, “real” calzones, and “real” cannolis for the first time, ever! (But a post about all of the food we ate will be coming later.) So will the […]

Happy Birthday, Jim!

Jim and I met at The University of Virginia, so Thomas Jefferson is very important to us.  Here is an interesting fact – Thomas Jefferson was born on Jim’s birthday (April 13) and died on Jade’s birthday (July 4).  I always post the children’s birthday photos, and they insisted that I post Daddy’s birthday photos as […]

What Did You DO???

We wanted to put together a video that demonstrated the youngest person rule in action at our house. We accomplished our goal.  But if you’ve ever thought that nothing ever goes wrong in our lives, here’s your proof that we mess up too! How funny was that?!?

Hardy Lake Raptors

Some of my favorite parts of homeschooling are the fun, yet educational things we get to experience.  A couple of weeks ago, a fellow homeschooling mom organized a field trip to see the raptors at our nearest state park.  They have a rehabilitation center there and have some birds that can never be released into […]

Lilacs

My favorite flower and fragrance is lilac.  When we moved to Indiana, the children got me some lilac bushes for Mother’s Day one year.  When we moved to Scottsburg, we had to leave those behind. That made me sad. But the new bushes they got me are already blooming!! That makes me very happy!   […]

Building Forts in the Woods

My children tend to be very creative and make use of existing materials when they want to build something.  So what do we have in abundance around here?  Dozens and dozens of empty coconut oil buckets. We usually take them to a local place to recycle.  But apparently the boys got “inspired” and decided to […]

Happy Birthday, Emery!

Emery celebrated his 14th birthday!  Since he is usually the one who bakes our breakfast birthday cakes, he decided he would rather enjoy donuts. Emery is such an amazing young man.  He told me that he was glad he was born in Spring and I agree – he has such a sunny attitude!
