We’ve had a lot of people in Scottsburg very curious about what we are building. People have asked if we’re building a Cracker Barrel, a machine shop, a barn, a consignment store, and (my personal favorite) a daycare. We thought by putting up our sign, we would clarify things.
Not so much.
Since putting up the sign, we’ve had people stop by and want to purchase goat milk, goat cheese, goat butter, cow butter, cow milk, and goat cream cheese. None of which we have.
Because Indigo is in charge of the retail area, she gets to answer most of these requests. She’s very patient and kind about it. But the other day she got a little exasperated. Her version of the story goes like this:
“Mom, that guy just walked in and told me he wanted to buy cow butter. I told him we didn’t have any. He said, ‘But I was told that the Amish always have cow butter and that you’re Amish.’ Mom, I told him we weren’t Amish. We’re not Amish, are we, Mom?”
After reassuring Indigo that she handled it properly and that she was correct, we’re not Amish, I just had to chuckle.
I suppose we’re going to have to get used to being “the new kids in town” and it will be a while before all the wild speculation settles down. Hopefully, once the weather gets nicer we’ll be able to meet a lot more people, which should help.
Until then, if you’re reading this and you’re from Scottsburg, we’re very glad to be here, but we don’t have any cow butter available.
The cow butter, cow milk and Amish comments I do not really understand, but by being called goat milk stuff I can see why people would think you had goat cheese and milk for sale. Soon people will be used to you being there and then before you know it they will even be using you as a land mark and saying; ” turn left down there by the good ole soap factory….”
That will be awesome. 🙂 PJ
