Today is the 18th anniversary of my first date with Jim.
Jim and I met during my first weekend at college – the University of Virginia. September 8th was the football game against Clemson. UVa had not beaten Clemson in a ridiculous number of years (over 30 if I remember – Jim would know).
For our first date, he took me to the game. We sat on the hill with his fraternity. Side note – I recently found out that the hill is no longer there and now has stadium seating.
It was a fairly normal first date… except for the fact that my date was painted blue and orange! At the time I wasn’t sure whether or not he was trying to impress me with the paint. Actually, I’m still not sure whether or not he was trying to impress me with the paint.
It was an incredibly exciting game – and quite remarkable in that UVa actually won!
A month later, Jim gave me a card. It had Ziggy (remember Ziggy?) on the front staring off into a sunset. Jim had printed off and taped to the front: “One month ago, as if it were destiny…”
I opened it up and it read: “UVa beat Clemson.” It also had a newspaper photo of Jim cheering the victory.
What a romatic, huh?!
How cute! My husband and I will be celebrating our 18th anniversary on Sunday. Where has all the time gone?
I know, it’s crazy!
And congratulations on your anniversary!!!!

That card was to honor the one month anniversary of UVa beat Clemson, not your first date, dear! 😉 The man has his own priority and it showed! :>
Do you still have the pic of his face in blue and orange? I bet many of us would love to see it here.
Somewhere. If I can ever find it, I will definitely add it to this post! PJ
I just graduated from UVa a month ago. I promise, the hill in the stadium underneath the giant scoreboard is still alive and well (and also functions hilariously well as a mud slide during rainy games 🙂 )!
Yes – it always did! LOL Congratulations on graduating!! Good stuff. 🙂 PJ
