We get asked lots of questions when we’re doing farm tours, selling soap at craft fairs, or simply running errands. Since most of those answers are heard only by the person who asked, we decided to share some of the common questions here on the blog. And of course you can ask a question of your own!
Hewitt, how many goats do you have? ~Stacy
We have 42 goats. Right now we are milking 15 does – that’s another name for a girl goat.
We had a buck in with all the does, to get them pregnant. A buck is the name of a boy goat. I think we have 5 or 6 bucks. They can get rather big. They are almost always hairy and stinky.
Bucks don’t have to have beards, but does don’t either. Does can have beards, so can bucks. But not all goats have beards. Some of ours do, but not all of them.
In the Spring all our does should have babies. That will be a super duper duper busy time. We’re going to have a lot more than 42 goats then! We might have over 50 babies!
