Two days ago, I recorded a podcast about the importance of sleep. I’ve been paying extra attention to make sure that I follow my own advice by getting to bed early and getting quality sleep so I can have a great day.
So… Last night I turned the lights off at 9:00, lit some candles, and talked to Jim while we did some stretching.
I blew out the candles around 9:30 and started to fall asleep.
At 9:45, the phone rang. It was my Mom. She said something like, “I just listened to your podcast on sleep, I hope I didn’t wake you up, but you didn’t tell me the last two goats had their babies. What did they have?” We had a short conversation.
Went back to bed and quickly fell asleep.
At 11:15, the phone rang again. I didn’t recognize the number, so I didn’t answer it. (On a side note, right now our home phone and business phone are the same. So if you’re calling the business late, you’re actually calling my home late. We’ll fix that at the new property.)
Went back to bed and quickly fell asleep.
Shortly after midnight, the weather alarm went off. We were in a severe thunderstorm warning. No tornado, so I turned it off.
Went back to bed and quickly fell asleep.
At 3:10 am, all of a sudden, the Lion King soundtrack started playing. Loudly. I tracked it to Greyden’s computer which was in the dining room. I opened the screen (while trying not to let the light from the screen hit me square in my sleepy eyes) only to discover his computer is password protected and I couldn’t open it. So I popped out the battery to turn it off.
Went back to bed and quickly fell asleep.
A little after 5 am, the driveway dinger dinged (announcing that somebody was arriving). I didn’t care who was out there at 5 am (probably a dog or a bird).
Stayed in bed and quickly fell asleep.
At 6:30, my alarm went off and I wanted to cry.
It was not exactly the quality sleep I had been yearning for. But the good news is that I was able to quickly fall asleep each time.
So…
Tonight I’m disconnecting the phone and letting it go straight to voicemail.
I’m making sure that all the computers are completely shut down.
And… I’m going to try again!
Because the moral of the story is, even if you have a bad night, there’s another one coming 24 hours later.
By the way, this reminded me of the time I was sleeping and I woke up to kitten claws digging into my scalp. I yelled to Jim for help and instead of helping me, he got out the video camera and recorded this kitten attack video (by the way I’m laughing, not crying).
