The circus came to Charlestown this spring. The newspaper said you could watch the elephants put up the Big Tent, so we went to watch. You can imagine how disappointed the boys were to watch a bunch of guys running around setting up the poles and canvas.
While we waited for the elephants to do their job, we played on the playground. There was a 12 swing swingset that the boys found very impressive.
Colter: “Man! We need one of these!”
Fletcher: “Yeah – we can all swing on it without it shaking!”
Emery: “We can’t even have three people on ours without it shaking!”
And then the boys wanted all of the kids to be on this thing:
(Have you ever tried holding a three yr old and a five yr old on one of those things? Trust me, you don’t want to!)
And then Colter had to show off… on the tallest thing he could climb. Why?!?
When we were done on the playground, they were finally ready to raise the big top posts by elephant power. The elephant had on a harness that was hooked to the bottom of the tall posts. The elephant pulled each of the four posts into place and it was up! The boys were much happier now.
Then we went and had Dad take a picture of us with the elephants. But they moved, and so we did not get any really good ones.
Then it was time to leave – we had Dustin coming to film the Mother’s Day Song (which actually came out really good!).
The actual circus show was really awesome. Mom said it was much better than she expected it to be. We got to sit right up close, so we could see (and smell) all of the animals. Fletcher loved the tiger show.
We even got to ride one of the elephants!
It was really cool and a lot of fun. I hope they come back again next year!
