Jim and I were working hard the other night and I was late for making dinner.
My darling daughter came out and announced that dinner would be ready in 10 minutes. I was so proud of her that she knew I was running late and took the initiative to make dinner all on her own.
So when Jim and I came in, there was spaghetti with sauce and meatballs, and sliced green peppers. We’ve been talking a lot lately about the fact that each meal should have carbs, protein, and vegetables. So I was not surprised and pleased to see all of them presented on the table.
Brett had even added extra spinach to the sauce to increase the veggies because she knows that I like lots and lots of veggies.
But I have to tell you about the sauce. It was a bit on the spicy side. Brett told me that she had even added 2 cans of tomato soup (since she couldn’t find crushed tomatoes) to the sauce to make it less spicy.
I was a bit confused by this because we always make our sauce from scratch and she said she didn’t add any spices to it – so why would it be spicy?
Brett clarified the situation by going to the counter to show me that she had used up the last of the tomato sauce that Poppy had bought at Sam’s Club on our vacation. She then showed us the jar which proudly proclaimed, “Picante Sauce – Medium Hot”.
Brett was confused when Jim and I started laughing.
But I have to tell you – that if you like spicy sauce – it was really good. The younger children didn’t like it much, but the rest of us devoured it.
Normally, I would have gotten a photo of the dinner, but I admit to being too hungry and eating it all instead.
Good job, Brett!
