Yesterday, Hewitt came into the living room where Jim and I were. He went up to Jim and was clearly upset about something. He started to complain and yell about something that had happened. He said something like, “Somebody poked me in the eye, and it was Col…”
But he was immediately cut off by Jim tickling him.
Jim stopped tickling him. So he started again, “I got poked in the eye by Col…”
More tickling.
“But Dad, my eye got poked by Col…”
Usually my children are pretty quick. But I admit, it took Hewitt quite a while to catch on the fact that if he said Colter, he would get tickled.
After a while, it became a game, with Hewitt grabbing Jim’s hands and yelling, “COLTER!”
He was never disappointed.
It actually looked something like this video(although I didn’t get the camera out until after Hewitt stopped crying about his eye. And be careful – the girls are kind of loud as Hewitt had interrupted a karaoke session):
They had a lot of fun that afternoon.
Jim told me today that when he tucked Hewitt into bed last night, he was all sleepy and snuggly. So Jim gave him a big squooshy hug and as Jim had most of his weight on top of Hewitt, Hewitt whispered… “Colter”
Oh man I love your family. That was hilarious- that "Colter" whispered right at the end of the night. Sounds like you guys are great parents, with great kids. My hubby and I only have one, he's 2 years old, named Gavin, born on Christmas Day (early morning)in 2008. We hope to have a loving warm family like yours seems to be! Good luck and I'll send some prayers your way too :)-Heather Beal
Thanks, Heather! I hope you get an entire house full! It’s a lot of work, but the hugs and laughter make up for that a million times over. 🙂 PJ
Please adopt me!!! Your family is a joy to watch!
That made me laugh, Diana! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. There’s always room around here for some willing workers. 😉 PJ
I really love to read about these interactions you and your husband have with your children
I’m so glad! I have so much fun writing about it. 🙂

That is so cute!!!. When my son is upset has has a sour face about something I look at him and Say “don’t smile” …after a few times he always ends up smiling and forgets that he was even upset.
Exactly! Gotta love reverse psychology. LOL PJ
Great way to distract him! We usually make silly faces
Yep! Whatever it takes! LOL PJ
I absolutely love the video in this blog. I Couldn’t stop laughing right along witth Hewitt. AWESOME FUN 🙂
Agreed – it was very infectious. 🙂

Very infectious. Kids will be kids.
And for the most part, I wouldn’t have it any other way. LOL PJ
