Jim, Brett, Cole, Emery, and Greyden were selling soap today. That left me at home with Fletcher, Hewitt, Indigo, and Jade. It was a different combination of kids than we usually have. Normally Fletcher is with the older children or with Greyden.
Fletcher really wanted to fly his kite today. But alas, there was no wind (which makes it rather difficult). Since he couldn’t do what he wanted to do, and didn’t have his normal playmates around, he was kind of at a loss.
Many times throughout the day I heard him say, “I’m bored.”
Now, you have to understand, I hear lots of things throughout the day, but “I’m bored” is not usually one of them. There are way too many things to do around here (both chore-wise and play-wise) to ever be bored. And normally, if I do hear, “I’m bored” then I quickly hand out a chore for them to do.
But we were actually done with all our chores today, so when Fletcher told me he was bored, I usually just suggested something for him to play with.
My favorite conversation went like this:
Fletcher: “I’m bored.”
Me: “Go play with the little people”
Fletcher: “Mommmmmm. There’s a reason they’re called little people. They’re for little people to play with. I’m nine!”
Ten minutes later, guess what Fletcher was happily playing with??
