Hooray! We were finally able to have
Fletcher’s Thumb Sucking Cessation Celebration!
He’s been trying to stop sucking his thumb for over a year, and he finally succeeded! We’re so proud of him. He got to choose his reward and he picked ice cream with hot fudge and colored sprinkles. He chose black raspberry chocolate chunk ice cream. It was a huge hit!
Of course, Cole and Emery had to get silly with their spoons. Fortunately it was before they started eating their ice cream.
Way to go, Fletcher!
Yay for Fletcher!! That's not an easy task!! Way to go!
Congrats to Fletcher. My daughter Sydney, is 2 and an avid thumb sucker…how long should I expect that lovely habit to last?

Jessica – in my experience, it has more to do with their temperament. Brett gave up sucking her thumb very easily when she was 5 or so. For her, it was more of a habit than anything. Fletcher relied very heavily on his thumb to calm him during his stormy moods. It was much harder for him to give it up. From what I've seen, a lot of it is when they make the commitment to quitting. Once they really commit to it, then it's just a matter of helping them remember. For Fletcher, it was putting teat tape on his thumbs. It only took about 3 days for him to stop. But he'd been half-way trying for over a year.
