Raphael and Renaissance

The weekly GMS meeting had just finished and I was working on writing Kidding Season blog posts when the call rang out through the soaproom – “Babies!!!”

Everyone abandoned what they were doing and we rushed to the barn, where we found two goats in labor – Belle and Reluctant. After deciding that Reluctant needed me there to catch babies faster than Belle would, I grabbed a towel and headed in. Reluctant is Red Bird’s baby girl, if you remember that ordeal, and I know that I wasn’t the only one who was a little nervous about this birth.

Reluctant was really tight, so after deciding that Belle wasn’t quite ready to go, Emery came over to help stretch Reluctant out and work on getting the baby out.

It wasn’t too long before we had our first baby out! We named him Raphael.

And a few minutes later, he was followed by his brother, Renaissance (or Ren.)

We brought them into the milk room and the little kids started drying them off,

and took pictures with them,

while the rest of us ran over to kidding pen A, where Belle was actively pushing!
