Behind the Scenes of the Goat Photoshoot

Every year or so, we try to take “official” goat photos for the website. With the craziness of the move and construction, we haven’t had much of a chance to take goat photos. Our last goat photoshoot was over two years ago, and we didn’t even have official photos of some of the babies.

I’ve been watching the weather, and one cool, clear morning, I grabbed the camera* and a few of my brothers.   It was time!

A few weeks ago, we bought collars for each of the goats.

We put the collars on the goats on the day of the photoshoot. The babies were very curious about the collars, and spent the whole day chewing on any collar they could get close to.

While I was taking pictures of the babies trying to eat the collars, the boys and Jade were discussing the best way to take the goat pictures. Apparently they’d forgotten that they’d brought Thalia out, because she was standing near the barn door, patiently waiting to be let back into the barn. (See her by the yellow wheelbarrow*?)

After a while, they figured it out, so Colter and Emery left to start getting goats. Greyden, Hewitt, and Jade, forgetting that they were alone, started up a band. Greyden was conducting, Jade was playing the drums, and Hewitt… nobody knows what Hewitt was doing.

Including Hewitt.

The conductor decided they were done playing, so he turned around and turned his baton into a flute. Ah, the fun of an imagination.

And then they realized that I’d been taking pictures the whole time.

Finally, Colter and Emery started bringing goats out, and soon we had people holding goats everywhere.

Then we spent the next four hours taking goat pictures!

We’re working on cropping and fixing the lighting on them now, and soon we’ll get them up on the website! I’ll probably write another post with some of my favorite pictures then.

Which is your favorite picture (or pictures) from this post? I love the ones of the kids being goofy!

    • They were adorable. I can’t wait to see them either. LOTS of cropping and editing to do. 🙂 PJ

  1. Hi there, Just curious – where did you get your goat collars w/ the names on them & what are they made of? Thank you, the Kiessling family

    • Yep – people always wonder if all the children ever do is work. That thought always makes me laugh. Not only do they have plenty of time outside of work, but they (almost) always have fun WHILE they’re working. 🙂 PJ

      • Farmers children help with all the farm work and still manage to have fun, so it would be the same concept! Work should always be fun and you should always try to find a job that you enjoy. It does not always workout, but it should. 🙂

  2. It is truly wonderful to see a family business at work. And to see how well you all treat your goats!
