How To Help Dry Knuckles

If you’ve been with Goat Milk Stuff long, you’ve probably heard me say that when I first started making our goat milk soap, I initially made it for the children, because I did not want a bunch of chemicals on their skin.  But when I put the soap in the shower, Jim’s fingers stopped cracking and splitting.

Jim had tried everything to help his fingers to stay in one piece and we were amazed that using our goat milk soap made such a big difference.  For most of the year, the soap is the only thing Jim uses on his skin.

His routine does change a little in the winter because we heat our house with wood.  Although heating with wood tends to dry out the air inside the house, our goat milk soap still provides enough moisture for our family’s skin.

Because Jim is the one who mostly loads the wood into the fireplace, the constant exposing of his hands to the drying effects of the fire causes his skin to need some extra help. Fortunately, it doesn’t crack and split, but his fingertips do get drier than he likes.

Because “necessity is the mother of invention”, I developed our lotion stick for him.

During the winter, every night before bed, Jim applies the lotion stick to his knuckles and finger tips.  It provides the extra moisture that his knuckles need during the winter months.

Keeping his knuckles from drying out is that simple!  When Jim remembers to apply the lotion, he doesn’t have any trouble with dry skin on his knuckles or fingertips – despite repeatedly loading wood into the fireplace.

Have you tried our solid lotion yet?

  1. I have used the lotion stick. I have a small one I carry in my purse and a larger one (which is almost empty) in my bathroom. I, too, get really dry skin in the wintertime and the lotion keeps me hydrated.

      • Have already got more but must admit that I cheated. I bought the tub but found it hard to use. I came up with the idea to replenish the large stick. I melted some of the tub in the stick lid (in the microwave) and poured it into the tube, let it harden, and now I can just roll it on.

        • That was smart! Some people adore the stick and hate the tub and some people love the tub and hate the stick. Everyone is so different! 🙂 PJ

  2. I love the lotion stick! I have had some dry spots on my hands and tried everything from in-stores for weeks … nothing helped. I ordered your soap and lotion stick and it was gone in a matter of days! Not to mention that itchy winter dry skin is non-existant since we started using your wonderful soap!

  3. Hi everyone! I love the lotion sticks (I get the deodorant style). It is so easy to use. I recently had knee surgery and the nurses said, “what makes your legs so soft?”–of course Goat Milk Stuff–but I have renamed it Goat Milk Love because it so loves my skin! Happy New Year!

    • That’s so great that the nurses noticed a difference. Awesome! I hope your knee is healing well!! PJ

  4. I use the lotion sticks on my hands and also on my heels. The Goat Milk Stuff
liquid soap in my kitchen has been a life saver too. No more cracked and rough hands. I always love the OMH for the kitchen sink!

  5. My husband had the exact same issues with his fingers and success with the soap. He now makes goats milk soap himself because he was so sold on your product. I think the stick may be a good Birthday present for him this month, and I’ve been wanting to try the shampoo bars….

  6. A friend recommended I try Goat’s Milk Stuff Soap, so I just started using it in the shower. I live in Minnesota where it is frigidly cold and my skin, especially my hands, get so dry in winter! So far I love the soap! I wasn’t sure about the effectiveness of a lotion stick, I worried that it might leave a greasy residue on my skin. But, after reading the blog and testimonials, I’m going to try the lotion stick.

    • I’m so glad you’re enjoying the soaps! The lotion stick will only be greasy if you use too much. A little bit goes a very long way. PJ

  7. I have just recently started using the stick lotion. My daughters hands peel completely every year (mine did as a child). This is a painful thing before the skin heals its self. We started using the stick lotion on her hands and it is the best thing we have found so far.

  8. Wow, this is a product that I have to try. My hands get very dry and chapped and even though I use lotion my knuckles still crack.

  9. Love this product! I have the same issue with cracking fingertips. It works perfectly! Would like it in Baby Powder scent!! I’m hooked on that scent! So clean and fresh smelling.

    • I’m so glad you love it! Periodically we make custom scents available – mostly when we have some free time in the soaproom (which isn’t often LOL)! PJ

  10. This sounds like good stuff! My co-worker has the same problem – this might just be the Christmas present for her!

  11. Thank you for sharing this!! Perfect gift for all labour intensive working men and women.
