We got a bunch of chicks a week or two ago, to replace some of our older laying hens. It’ll be 4-6 months before they start giving us eggs! -Brett

  1. Going back to Hewitt wanting a cow: The only way he is going to get milk is if he breeds the cow and than what would he do with the calf? Than he would (undoubtedly) be attached to the baby, so you will eventually end up with a whole bunch of cows! I think you are doing enough already (goats, rabbits, chickens, vegetables, etc, plus all the products that you use for the family or sell. You amaze us with all that you do, but there has to be a limit somewhere! Wishing you and your wonderful family many blessings (and congratulations on Brett’s engagement), Sandi Heffner

    • Hey Sandi. It’s not a milk cow. It’s a beef cow. And it’s a boy. Big difference. LOL We have a lot of extra milk in the spring (and not enough in the fall). He would feed the calf with that extra milk and then let it grow out on grass. And he’s my most pragmatic child and has butchered a lot of animals. He would know better than to get to attached. 🙂 It’s not happening anyway, but thanks for the concern and blessings for Brett!! PJ
